Vegan Substitutes

Here, you will find the 'vegan substitutes' I personally use to 'veganize' recipes. That is to say, if you find an awesome non-vegan recipe you like, you can replace those tricky non-vegan ingredients with my recommendations below!

Use your own discretion as to which replacement would be appropriate for your recipe.

Egg
  • 1 egg = 2 tablespoons of water + 4 teaspoons of baking powder + 1 tablespoons of oil
  • 1 egg = 1/3 cup of applesauce
  • 1 egg = 3/4 mashed banana + 1/4 teaspoon of baking powder
Buttermilk
  • 1 cup of buttermilk = 1 cup of non-dairy milk + 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar + 15 minutes
Cheese
  • 1 cup of ricotta = 1 cup of soft/silken tofu + 1 teaspoon of lemon juice
Honey
  • 1 teaspoon of honey = 1 teaspoon of agave nectar
